University Health Services supports the entire campus by providing high-quality care and expertise in prevention, Promotive, Curative programs and services, and leading community-based solutions to health issues.

Building a healthy campus culture and environment that help ensure a vital academic community where each person can thrive and participate fully in the University’s mission.
The Department of Students Health Services will respect the dignity of each student irrespective of race, religion, gender, culture and belief.

One of the University’s roles is to equip its members — students, staff and faculty — to lead healthy and fulfilling lives, to make lifelong choices to support their physical, mental and emotional health. University Health Services is a model for proactive campus health care.

Every person has the right to education and the right to health is a fundamental human right guaranteed in the Constitution of Kenya. Riara University is determined to have Educated and healthy Students. Having that in mind, we always look forward to deliver, affordable, available and accessible preventive, promotive and curative services to the Riara Community.

Health is multidimensional: physical, mental, emotional, environmental, social and spiritual (incorporate regular health information and health awareness on the web site.)

We embrace working collaboratively – with clients, campus and local providers – using the strengths of a multidisciplinary approach. (Work with other international and local health partners to achieve a common goal).

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence disease or infirmity.

The Department of Health Services encourages students to take an active role in their own health and follow up for additional care recommended. It is important to remember that you as a health care consumer have three fundamental health rights:

  1. Privacy
  2. Courtesy
  3. Information
All students are eligible for health services at the center during their presence in the University compound and out for university activities i.e. games
Students are required to produce their university student cards when seeking medical care at the unit.
All student are supposed to submit their admission medical forms to admissions office.

The Centre is open from Monday to Friday during semester
Monday –Fridays
0800 – 1700 hrs.
NB: The students are seen on a walk-in basis, emergency and by appointment with the Counselor; the Counselor is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays 0900hrs -1700hrs

  1. Outpatient services for both acute and Chronic problems
  2. Counseling
  3. Referrals to specialist in all fields.
  4. Health Information
  5. Red Cross and mentorship Programmes are key Riara health programmes. Students are advised to take part in these programmes. Details can be obtained from the health unit.

Individual counseling sessions address problem such as

  1. HIV and Aids
  2. Substance Abuse i.e. alcohol, drugs
  3. Family planning
  4. Sexually Transmitted Infection
  5. Sexual Health
  6. Personal Hygiene
  7. Nutrition and diet
  8. Stress Management
  9. Bereavement
  10. Marital Problems- Relationships.
  11. The list is endless
