The World Book Day was first officially celebrated in 1995, when UNESCO selected April 23rd as the date to mark the event. The date coincides with the birth and deaths of famous authors, including the death of William Shakespeare (April 23, 1616) and Miguel de Cervantes (April 22, 1616) and Josep Pla (April 23, 1981) and the birth of Vladimir Nabokov (April 22, 1899) among others.

Its main aim is to inculcate reading habits among people especially the youth and highlights the various issues surrounding authors, publishers and other related parties. It is known as the World Book and Copyright Day.The University celebrated the day with children from Becky School. The children had been invited for an interactive session from 9am – 11:30am.

You can get involved in celebrating this important day through:
    1. Joining RU Book Club – the objective of the club is to entrench a reading culture.
    2. Swapping books- sharing books you have already read with others.
    3. Reading a book/books together with your family/friends.
4.Donating books and engaging in other activities intended to promote reading
