Mauritius was chosen as the host for the 23rd ICCA Congress because of the progress that the country has made to improve its legal system for international arbitration, and to position itself as a centre of excellence for international arbitration in Africa. The conference sessions were mostly held at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre (SVICC). The keynote address at the opening ceremony was by Nobel Laureate Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei. The Secretary General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon gave a keynote address as well to the delegates.
Florence Shako also took part in the Young ICCA Arbitration Skills Workshop and engaged with delegates from all over the world in various breakout and networking sessions at the conference. This helped her to gain useful contacts and insights into the world of international commercial arbitration.
