Prof. Robert Gateru is the holder of a PhD in Microelectronic Engineering & Semiconductor Device Physics from the University of Surrey (UK),

Masters in Microelectronic Engineering & Semiconductor Device Physics from the University of Cambridge (UK) and BSc.

(First Class Honours) in Physics from the University of Nairobi.

He is a seasoned academic, with over 10 years teaching and administration experience in various universities; he serves on a number of Boards, including Rural Electrification Authority, LIWA (Linking Industry With Academia) Kenya Trust and the Rift Valley Institute of Science & Technology. He is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineer (IEEE), which is the world’s largest technical professional association. He is also a Founding Member of the Physics Society of Kenya where he serves in the Executive Committee. He has served in the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Professional Practice and Chaired many Conference Steering Committees.Selected awards that Prof. Gateru has received include the Distinguished Scholar Award by the ICT Association of Kenya, the Africa HR Leadership Award for Outstanding Contribution to Training & Development, and Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40 Men (2012) recognition by the BUSINESS Daily. He has won numerous grants, most notably a KES 46 Million grant from the World Bank through the Government of Kenya for establishment of the Kenya Centre of Excellence for BPO Training. He has published widely in international journals and presented in conferences across the world.

Prof. Gateru joined Riara University from Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) where he was the Principal of the Nairobi Campus, a position he has held from 2010. He has also worked as founding Dean and Associate Professor in KeMU’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics as well as Head of Department for the same institution. Prof. Gateru has previously served as the Founding Dean of the School of Science, Engineering and Technology at the Kabarak University where he also served as Head of Department for Computing, Mathematics and Physical Sciences as a Senior Lecturer.



Prof. Nguru is a career educationist who has been involved in the sector for close to three decades. She brings to Riara University a rich academic, research and administrative experience. She began her teaching career after graduating from Kenya Science Teachers College in 1981. A career change saw her train at Daystar University where she EARNED an undergraduate degree in Communication and a Masters degree in Christian Ministries. She earned another Masters and a Doctorate degree in Mass Communication from Bowling

Green State University, USA. Her teaching and research areas are broad and cover Media, Christian Ministries, Higher Education and Development.

At Daystar University she rose through the ranks to become an Associate Professor and served as Head of Post Graduate Department; Dean, Faculty of Arts; Director, Research, Publication and Consultancy and most recently Dean, School of Communication, Language and Performing Arts as well as Coordinator of the Communication PhD Programme. She has also presented international conference papers at Shillon University, India and at Africa Round Table Conference, Johannesburg, amongst others.

At Riara University Prof. Nguru will combine her role as DVC with directing the School of Foundation Studies which aims at enriching the other academic disciplines by producing graduates who are ethical, analytical and demonstrate a comprehensive world view in their professions. Prof. Nguru is currently engaged in community outreach through mentoring and facilitating rural women for community development.


Dr Muriithi holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from the California School of Business and Organizational Studies in San Diego, California; an MBA from USIU, Nairobi and a B.Ed in Chemistry from the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Muriithi is a proven leader in the corporate world and also has impressive University experience in both teaching and University administration. Since 2006 Dr. Muriithi has worked as an adjunct Lecturer in a number of universities

including Strathmore Business School, JKUAT and USIU. He has also served as a member of JKUAT’s University Management Board and a member of the Governing Council.

Dr. Muriithi’s Professional awards include the Marketing Society of Kenya Warrior Award for his unique contribution to marketing practice in Kenya. He has also twice been awarded the best social MARKETING CAMPAIGN for the Mater Heart Run.

He recently joined Riara University from the Mater Hospital in Nairobi where he was the CEO from 2008- 2015. Dr. Muriithi has also previously worked as CEO of JKUAT Enterprises and as CEO of SC Johnson East Africa.
