Riara University, School of Education recently held a leadership seminar for deputy head teachers in Nairobi County at the Mbagathi Campus on 15th February 2013. The seminar brought together leading minds within the Riara Group of Schools and the Riara University, as well as reputable academicians and education managers and practitioners.
The welcoming addresses were given by a distinguished cast that included Prof. Harriet Njui, Vice Dean, Riara School of Education and Mr. Kinoti Kiogora, Senior Quality Assurance Officer-City Education Office. This was followed by a very insightful speech by the Chief Advisor to Schools, Jecinta A. Charles. Thereafter, the keynote address, “Character Competence in Leadership” was presented by Mr. Geoffrey Cherongis, TSC Nairobi County Director.
Other key papers presented during the seminar included: “TSC Staffing Needs in the Devolved System, by Ms. Keziah Saoli TSC County Staffing Officer-Primary Schools; “Building Top Performing Teams” by Ms. Agnes Theuri, City Quality Assurance Officer; “Managing Discipline in Schools”, by Ms. Dorothy Ogega, Senior Quality Assurance Officer-Basic Education; “Quality Assurance and The Role of a Deputy Head Teacher in Curriculum Implementation” by Mrs. Martha Ekirapa, Senior Assistant Director –Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education (MoE); and “Deputy Head Teachers’ Role in Human Resource Management” by Mr. D. M. Kisyanga, the TSC County Human Resource Officer.
By the end of the Seminar, there was unanimous agreement of the need for Education Managers and Leaders to enroll for the Strategic Leadership and Senior Management programmes offered by Riara University. Certificates of attendance were issued by Prof. Nguru, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Riara University. The closing remarks were delivered by the Vice Chancellor of Riara University, Prof. Kiarie Mwaura.
