DEPUTY HEAD TEACHERS’ SEMINARS

HELD AT RIARA UNIVERSITY ON:

15TH FEBRUARY, 22ND FEBRUARY AND 15TH MARCH, 2013

Purpose of the Seminars
The School of Education planned the Deputy Head Teachers ‘Seminars in order to create awareness of the new Leadership and Management Programmes approved by senate. The Deputy Head Teachers were the target group because they had not received any training in this area. Kenya Educational Management Institute has a similar programme which targets only the Head Teachers.

Participation
There was remarkable attendance. SoE expected 205 Deputy Head Teachers (because there are 205 public primary schools in Nairobi) but 280 Deputy Head Teachers participated. The teachers explained that the topics of discussion were very crucial to them. We noted that some of the Deputy Head Teachers, who attended the first seminar, sent their senior teachers to participate in the subsequent seminars.

Facilitators
The facilitators delivered the topics effectively. However, what was more impressive was the fact that they applauded Riara University for being the first institution of higher learning to initiate partnership with them. This, they explained, would ensure that there were no discrepancies between our graduates and the job market because they will always update us on current trends.

Response from the Deputy Head Teachers
The teachers were impressed by the overall organization, presentation, hospitality and the entire RU experience. They confirmed that a unique relationship had been established between RU and them. They promised to not only enroll in the RU programmes, but to recommend the programmes to family members, friends and the community in general.

Appreciation
SoE salutes the entire RU team which came out and supported the entire programme enthusiastically. The SoE would not have achieved as much as it did without the participation of The Chairman of the Council, The Directors, The VC and DVC, the Dean-School of Business, the Dean School of Law, the Marketing Team, the Finance Team, The Hospitality Team, the Administration Team, the Security Team, the ICT Team, and the Transport Team.
